BrainNook is an interactive site that we will be using this year! I find this site to be very neat because it has games that are aligned to the Common Core standards. BrainNook presents students with questions based on their skill levels
which is determined by a quick pre-assessment and adjusted as they
progress through BrainNook's virtual worlds. There are games that also align to the Language Arts standards but for the purpose of our class, we will use the ones for mathematics. (Parents/Guardians: You may also create an account for your children if you wish to practice Language Arts skills at home but it is not free.)
In our classroom, BrainNook will be used during our Computer center. As I set assignments (or open up games that align to the standard we are covering), students will be able to go in and play the game. Note: I plan on playing the game FIRST to ensure that it is appropriate and does cover the correct standard. The assignments will have a due date but because all students will have a chance at the computer center, this should not be a problem. BrainNook will also alert a parent/guardian through the e-mail entered when registering for site that a new misson (or game) has been assigned.
