Yummy Math

Yummy Math is a website designed for the purpose of sharing mathematics problems and scenarios based on things happening in the world today. For example, the activity for December 4th was based on Lebron James's return to Cleveland. I've decided to use this website for our class because it talks about various things such as NFL and NBA teams, the size of pumpkins grown on local farms, Columbus (incorporating history into mathematics), TV sizes, etc. The creators, two mathematics teachers, Brian Marks and Leslie Lewis, developed Yummy Math and welcome suggestions from other mathematics teachers and parents/guardians.

I plan on using this site during our morning bell ringers. After getting to know many of the students interests, I hope to engage them by picking topics to use that interest them! Students will really be able to see how mathematics is present in our everyday lives! I plan on showing students pictures, charts, and reading the description to help solve the math problem. Yummy Math posts something new everyday so we will have lots of options to choose from!

Yummy Math's website is found here.
